Surf Camps in Krui South Sumatra
As a surfer, I always wonder what else is out there. I think it's natural, given the close relationship between traveling and surfing, to always wonder what's beyond the next corner. Recently though, I've been having a tough time finding space to breathe on surf trips. It seems like everywhere you go, there's a packed lineup regardless of whether or not the waves are any good. Granted, Padang Padang with 80 people is worth it. But how often do you get to do that? Did I reall fly across the world to do that? I don't think so.
I heard about South Sumatra this year through a friend of a friend and who had went and had given it a stellar review. After doing my homework, I was in. Looks like uncrowded waves in a beautiful, remote part of Indonesia and that's exactly what it is. There was no disappointment on this trip, no packed line-ups, no problems whatsoever. Just me, a few friends, and our motorbikes driving through the jungle looking for waves.
We ended up staying at Paradise Beach Bungalows Surf Camp right in front of KArang Nyimbor and we would never have stayed anywhere else. Rene, the owner, is a class act and has the dire straits on loud and the beers cold for all that come. Prices were cheap and the accomm was exactly what we needed. Basic, safe, cheap, and clean.
To get to Krui South Sumatra and Paradise Surf Camp, fly into Jakarta international, then take a small flight over to Bandar Lampung on Sumatra. Arrange a bus to Krui through http://paradisesurfcampsumatra.com/ and cash in on one of the most pristine regions in all of Indonesia.
You will not be disappointed! I scored!
